YENAGOA – The vigilant people of Biseni community in the Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State are still detaining the five tankers they arrested with liquid substance suspected to be stolen crude oil.

It was gathered on Monday that the alleged bunkering tankers were still parked at the spots where their tyres were deflated by the oil-producing community after their arrests.

The people of Binseni had on April 25 intercepted the five tankers driving out of their bush, on suspicion that they could be conveying stolen crude oil siphoned from oil wells.

The Bayelsa State Government has yet to issue any statement on the incident even as none of its officials has visited Biseni.

A chief of Biseni, Justus Bekesu, confirmed to our correspondent in a telephone chat on Monday that the five bunkering tankers were still detained in the community.

He said the soldiers had not returned to the community since Friday, adding that a meeting with the police authorities was proposed for Monday in Yenagoa, the state capital.

Bekesu said, “The soldiers have not come back. The five tankers are still here. We will be holding a meeting with the police in Yenagoa today (Monday).”
